The uncomfortable truth: Why most underwear has a gusset that's too narrow
Share

Comfortable underwear seems like a given, but for many women it isn't. Many briefs, thongs and other styles you find in stores today have a fairly narrow gusset. This means the underwear often doesn't fit the body well, which can lead to discomfort during wear. Some women think this means their body or vulva is "different", when the reality is simply that underwear is often not designed for the variation in female anatomy.
At Fanny Fit, we felt this could be different. That's why we developed underwear that fits the female body better, with a wider gusset that provides more coverage and stability. In this blog we explain why the width of the gusset is so important for comfort and how a wider design can provide a better fit.
Variation in the female anatomy
The width of the vulva varies greatly between women. This is related to various factors, such as differences in body type, bone structure and the anatomy of the vulva itself. In other words: the variation between women is considerable. This makes it virtually impossible to define one "average" vulva.
Yet many underwear designs on the market seem to be based on the idea of one average, which in practice is not representative of the great variation between women. When the gusset of underwear is too narrow, it may not fit the body as well. The underwear can shift during movement or simply feel less stable throughout the day.
This can be particularly annoying in a public setting, for example during exercise or at work. For many women, a wider gusset can therefore provide more coverage, stability and comfort.
Why this problem is often worse with thongs
Thongs currently on the market often have a fairly narrow gusset. The back part resembles a string, causing the fabric at the front too narrow to connect to that thin shape.
For some women this design works fine, but for many others it means the gusset doesn't fit correctly. This can cause a thong to shift more quickly or feel less comfortable throughout the day.
That is precisely why at Fanny Fit we have designed our thongs with a wider gusset that better fits the variation in female anatomy and the needs of many women.
Underwear with a wider gusset
The idea of a wider gusset is something we have applied not only to our thongs, but also to other styles such as Briefs and Brazilians. By making the gusset wider, the underwear can fit the body better and remains more comfortable throughout the day. We have also made the fabric from an ultra-soft natural material. In addition, we have extended the lining all the way to the top, so that discharge is better absorbed. Read more about that in this blog.
Comfortable underwear starts with a design that takes real bodies into account and the natural variation between them. Remember that comfort should always be the highest priority when choosing underwear.
