The pocket in women's underwear: What is the purpose & why is it placed the way it is?

When it comes to women's underwear, you may have noticed a special feature known as the hygienic pocket. This small pocket-like area sewn into the crotch area of underwear serves a specific purpose. In this blog post, we will delve into the reasons behind the pocket in women's underwear, explore its purpose, and shed light on why we have changed the positioning of the pocket in comparison to thongs on the market.

The pocket, which we call hygienic lining, in women's underwear serves multiple important functions. Firstly, it provides an additional layer of fabric in the crotch area for hygiene purposes. This extra barrier helps absorb moisture and discharge, keeping the wearer feeling fresher and more comfortable throughout the day. The pocket is also meant to act as a protective layer between external garments and the body, preventing direct contact and potential irritation. However, as we have also touched upon the variation between women in our blog post about gusset widths, the pocket as it is currently placed cannot serve the purpose as a protective layer well for all women. As it is placed quite far to the back, skin can come in direct contact with external materials such as jeans. Irritation and chafing therefore is regularly experienced by women.

As we design our thongs with female anatomy in mind, our thongs have comfortable double lining in the softest natural fabric we could find. This lining goes up all the way to the top of the thong, covering all the sensitive skin. Hereby we make sure the hygienic lining does what it is meant to do: to provide comfort, protect the vulva from contact with external fabric and to collect any discharge or sweat which may occur throughout the day.
